PLEASE consider bringing some of these items with you when you visit ...... Spend the day touring this famous World War II era Aircraft Carrier with its many exhibits and displays. Once you step foot aboard this WWII aircraft carrier you become a part of the story. So get ready to embark on a journey like no other. Let your imagination run wild aboard the USS LEXINGTON. The sights and sounds are so real and so intense you\'ll feel like you\'ve been transported back in time. Climb behind the controls of a Jet Fighter, catch a movie in the Mega Theater, take a ride in the Flight Simulator or just enjoy the breathtaking views from the Flight Deck a true living legend, for the most educational, exciting and entertaining time you\'ll ever have. Commissioned in 1943, LEXINGTON served longer and set more records than any carrier in U.S. Naval history. Decommissioned in 1991, the 910-foot, 16-deck, 33,000-ton aircraft carrier now serves as an important historical repository and museum. Because of the historical significance of the USS LEXINGTON, the ship is maintained as a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and as a memorial to the people who died serving the US, in the defense of freedom, especially in World War II. Displays, ceremonies, and other programs emphasize the heroism and sacrifice of those who have served the nation in the Navy and the Marine Corps. Historical reenactments vividly portray the service of the people who fought in World War II. LEXINGTON has approximately 20% of the ship refurbished and open for touring. There are five, self-guided tour routes covering 100,000 square feet and eleven decks. The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) was founded on the principle that veterans are our nation\'s greatest citizens. The WWP seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other locations around the world. Many of the injuries are traumatic amputations, gunshot wounds, burns and blast injuries that will retire these brave warriors from military service. At the Wounded Warrior Project we provide programs and services designed to ease the burdens of the wounded and their families, aid in the recovery process, and smooth their transition back to civilian life. Our work begins at the bedside of the severely wounded, where we provide comfort items and necessities, counseling, and support for families. We help to speed rehabilitation and recovery through adaptive sports and recreation programs, raising patients\' morale, and exposing them to the endless possibilities of life after an injury. Finally, we provide a support mechanism for those who have returned home by providing outreach and advocacy on issues like debt and disability payments that will affect their families\' future. Although these brave soldiers will face great challenges during their recovery, with the assistance of the Wounded Warrior Project and the help of the grateful American public, they will find the opportunities that will enable them to provide for themselves and their families. With our assistance, their unyielding spirit will overcome any obstacle. We need your help to carry out this vital mission. We cannot restore the lost limbs, but we can help restore to our wounded warriors their dignity by ensuring that they are not forgotten. They ask so little, yet give so much. Since before the United States entered World War II, the USO (United Service Organizations) has been the bridge between the American public and the U.S. military. In times of peace and war, the USO has consistently delivered its special brand of comfort, morale and recreational services to the military. The USO, a congressionally chartered, private, nonprofit organization, relies on the generosity of individuals and corporations to support USO activities. Today, the USO delivers its programs and services at more than 130 locations around the world. In recent years, the USO opened centers in Kuwait, Qatar and Afghanistan to support service members participating in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, as well as centers in Vicenza, Italy, and at the Dallas/Fort Worth, Raleigh/Durham and Denver International Airports. Military personnel and family members visited USO centers more than 4.7 million times last year. Services include free Internet and e-mail access, libraries and reading rooms, housing assistance, family crisis counseling, support groups, game rooms and nursery facilities. The USO reaches out through: Airport centers, welcoming weary military travelers with a place to rest and the ability to familiarize themselves with their new surroundings . Family and community centers, promoting intercultural understanding and orientation to unfamiliar locations . Mobile USOs, reaching out to troops in remote and sometimes unstable locations USO celebrity entertainment tours bring volunteer celebrities to entertain, lift morale, and express the gratitude and support of the American people. For 66 years, the USO\'s mission has remained the same. The USO will support U.S. troops and their families wherever they serve. Across the United States and around the world, the American military knows that the USO is there for them. By supporting the USO, Americans show their appreciation and express their gratitude to the men and women who defend us
